Photo Series: Skin Costume

This series centers on the idea of skin as something cemented upon our bodies, something that we can't just take off, whereas with a costume, it's something that you can change out of at your will in a matter of seconds.

 

I've recently seen trends overtake the internet that sexualize traditional Asian outfits, language, and our culture in general. It inspired me to spread a message using these photos that these harmful depictions of our culture as something overtly sexual has harmed many of our community and led to so much hurt and pain, especially for Asian women, who now face this stereotype of being "submissive" and therefore easily controlled our manipulated. Our skin, the very substance that makes up our bodies, is not a costume that we can take off.
